The Arts Commission of Greater Grove City began awarding Art Scholarships to High School Seniors in the south west school area in 1986. The first scholarship was an award of $100 to Dan Wodarcyk of Grove City High School. In the following years, some of the original members of the Arts Commission continued through the changes in membership, the renaming of the organization, and the expanded involvement of a membership dedicated to furthering the Arts in the Grove City community.
Now known as the Grove City Arts Council, this arts group has grown the annual Art Scholarship to a $1000 award to one or more High School Seniors from the four SouthWest City Schools. Prerequisite are as described above. Since the Scholarship’s beginning, in excess of $16,000 has been directed to over 30 students in this Grove City area.
The Scholarship Fund is replenished by the ongoing efforts of the members in the events of this community. You will see the Arts Council at the Town Center’s Farmers Market selling colorful flowers, savory herbs, and delicious baked goods, and again in their booth full of artwork during Arts in the Alley. They are also your hosts for the Night on the Town, a unique evening of art, music and theater in the spring to benefit this Art Scholarship.
On behalf of the Grove City Arts Council, we thank all who contribute to our commitment of growing art and creativity into the next generation.
